AVU winter 2024
Welcome to our curated showcase of standout artworks from the winter semester at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague.
Barbora Koblasová
First I approached this series of portraits by Barbora Koblasová called Silencium. Which is a latin word for silence. It refers to the absence of sound or noise, and it is often used to describe a state of quietness or lack of audible disturbance. Some might see elements of BDSM, some might see death or spirituality.
Emilie Fňukalová
Death will stay with us longer with this installation by Emilie Fňukalová. I love how Emilie illustrated death so delicately. The care of the hands and peace of the deceased one. The combination of photographs, drawings, and objects appeared seamlessly harmonized.
Emma Kissová
Emma Kissová surprised me with her sculpture called: A mother with a baby stuck to her back. It took me a while to orient myself in this sculpture but when I did it made all sense immediately.
Jolana Škachová
Jolana Škachová definitely surprised me. Those drawings with colored pencils suit her well. She continues with her theme dresses and closet and I hope with this technique too. I’m looking forward to see her work in the summer.
Tereza Šrámková
This year's work of Tereza Šrámková compared with last year was lower. This time she invited people to interact with the sculpture with a small string. With a gentle pull you could move the wings of this porcelain pony. Her installation was called My little pony.
Liza Libenko
Liza Libenko has a big year ahead of her. She is working booth on her Diploma and Her solo show at STRABAG Artlounge in Vienna. I was totally fascinated by those depictions of handcrafted sunflowers. She painfully bent each wire with her own hands. A craft that not many artists would choose due to its difficulty and time-consuming nature. I believe it will pay off for her in the future. She has what it takes to go international.
