  • HIDDEN Originals marks the inception of the entire HIDDEN concept, founded by Filip Kartousek in 2014. This visionary project was born from Kartousek's desire to illuminate overlooked places through art exhibitions. By highlighting spaces we routinely passed by without noticing, HIDDEN transformed them into artistic mediums via vernissages, events, and happenings.

The mission was to bring these spaces to life, with the ultimate goal of having people attend a vernissage to simply experience the pure atmosphere. As Kartousek articulated, "Our aim is to make places present through artistic interventions."

  • HIDDEN Republika focused on utilizing public spaces for contemporary art exhibitions, providing a platform for art students to showcase their work and engaging the public in unique ways. The space operated experimentally, hosting short-term exhibitions of new discoveries and emerging talents. Due to its success, the initiative demonstrated the potential of integrating art into public spaces and making it accessible to a broader audience.

Location: Vestibule, Náměstí Republiky metro station. However, the space has now been handed over to a commercial project.

  • HIDDEN Florenc was initiated as a response to the COVID-19 pandemic, aiming to bring art to the public during a time of restricted access to traditional gallery spaces. The first exhibition featured Tomáš Motal, setting the tone for the gallery's focus on contemporary illustration. This innovative project was made possible through a collaboration with Prague metro architect Anna Švarc, who provided the space in the Florenc metro station vestibule.

Following the inaugural exhibition, a series of shows highlighting contemporary illustration from Czech and Slovak artists were curated, with Tomáš Motal selecting the artists. Currently, HIDDEN Florenc is undergoing reconstruction.

    Location: Vestibule, Florenc metro station

  • HIDDEN Tachovské náměstí was the first permanent location in Prague for HIDDEN Gallery. The concept originated when Filip Kartousek, a minimalist at the time, moved to Prague. With very few possessions, he was able to easily transform his room into a gallery space for vernissages. By temporarily moving his belongings into his roommates’ room, he created a classic White Cube gallery environment right in his own living space. These vernissages had a distinctive, homey, and punk atmosphere, with events like cooking duck in the kitchen during the exhibitions.

This unique setup allowed Kartousek to host intimate and domestic exhibitions. Living with the art for 2-3 months after the exhibition gave Kartousek a profound understanding of how art influences daily life. He experienced firsthand how having art at home affects the living environment and the person who lives with it. This deep connection between living with art and daily life became a foundational aspect of HIDDEN Gallery’s philosophy.

The space is particularly significant as it was where HIDDEN Gallery first exhibited the works of Anna Ruth, marking an important milestone in both the artist's career and the gallery's history. Throughout its lifetime, HIDDEN Tachovské náměstí hosted a total of 13 exhibitions

    Location: Tachovské náměstí, Prague

  • HIDDEN Olomouc made its debut in December 2014 at Konvikt, the Art Center of Palacký University in Olomouc. As I explored the surroundings, I envisioned it as a gallery and initially proposed the name "skrytá galerie" in Czech. However, a friend suggested the name "HIDDEN gallery," a translation of the original Czech name I had conceived.

The first exhibition featured my own work, and during the opening speech, I announced that the next exhibition would follow in one week at the same venue. Throughout its existence, HIDDEN Olomouc curated 10 exhibitions and participated in the XY festival in Olomouc on three occasions, significantly contributing to the vibrant cultural scene of the city.
