The first solo exhibition of Sára Konečná presents a series of airbrush paintings inspired by the atmosphere of saunas — spaces where warmth becomes a tool of both physical and mental cleansing. For Konečná, the sauna is not only a setting but a metaphor for self-acceptance. The works emerge from a personal need to reconcile with her own body, to confront feelings she has about herself and the others.
Using her own body as a model, the artist approaches painting as a quiet form of study. She photographs herself and then translates these images into minimal compositions built from soft color planes. Any traces of eroticism are intentionally subdued; what remains is sensitivity, hesitation, and the tension of being seen. Through this restraint, Konečná captures an intimacy that feels private yet universal.
Her work echoes the spirit of Smoke Sauna Sisterhood, a film that resonated deeply with her for its portrayal of women sharing experiences and releasing trauma within the space of the sauna. Similarly, Konečná’s paintings reveal a form of silent dialogue — between the artist and herself, and between the viewer and their own sense of vulnerability.
