Anna Ruth
About
Anna Ruth successfully graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague in 2022. She studied under the guidance of Jiří Petrbok and Martin Gerboc in the Drawing Studio.
Anna Ruth's work bears the hallmarks of what can be described as contemporary neo-romanticism. It has long been defined by her personal mythology, which is eclectically composed of fragments of different cultures. She freely combines real historical events with myths. In her work we can thus see a reflection of how human society evolves and how it tries to understand its own existence. She creates her own narratives, but they contain symbols that resonate in the collective unconscious.
The environments of the paintings and installations combine a certain timelessness with a strong emphasis on nature, which is depicted here through the presumed perspective of indigenous people. As a mysterious territory of its own, dangerous to man by its opacity, evoking a sacred awe. It balances between figuration and abstraction. Large formats, light glaze painting, earthy colours. Fluidly, the artist transitions between painting and sound, which she often describes as the soundtrack to her paintings. She creates complex installations that materialize the environment of her paintings, an environment in which image and sound can be naturally combined.
