Jiří Petrbok, a prominent Czech painter and visual artist (1962). He is renowned for his expressive style, exploring themes of human transformation and often incorporating provocative motifs. His work spans painting, drawing, graphics, and object creation, with regular exhibitions both in the Czech Republic and internationally.
Petrbok's work often blends the real with the imaginary, combining psychological and physical experiences of society with individual perspectives. His paintings feature surreal encounters between characters and objects, including his favored motif of vegetables, reflecting his long-term vegetarianism and fascination with their diverse forms. His art is characterized by a transformation of the human body, depicting it in various states of metamorphosis, and is known for its situational humor and exploration of the human condition.
Since 2011, Petrbok has led the Drawing Studio at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague (AVU), mentoring numerous significant artists. His influence is evident in the younger generation, with the HIDDEN gallery continuing his legacy by collaborating with his former students.
