Ilona Koroman

About

Ilona Koroman is a Prague-based painter whose work captures the subtle tension of everyday environments. Her compositions, often depicting housing estates, tram lines, empty roads, and nighttime cityscapes, reflect a world in transition: not quite melancholic, but never fully at ease.

In her recent work, including her diploma paintings at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague, she shifted from gouache on paper to oil on canvas, expanding both the physical and emotional scale of her scenes. Her painting process remains intuitive and direct, grounded in observation but always slightly detached—as if the world she paints is seen from memory, or in passing.

There’s a quiet cinematic rhythm to her work: moments that feel paused rather than staged, often populated by solitary figures, distant buildings, or discarded objects. Koroman belongs to a younger generation of Czech painters whose sensibility is shaped by everyday life, poetic realism, and a deep attention to atmosphere.
